The Mirror - Creating Space and Light
Kenneth Bargers | September 2025 Newsletter
A mirror’s reflection is a valuable tool when striving to enhance your home’s impression of space and light. A strategically placed mirror in a common area greatly impacts a home’s appeal whether you are enjoying your every-day-living or planning to attract potential buyers.
For the purpose of this month’s September newsletter topic let’s stay focused on a real estate’s friend - The Mirror.
Go Big…
The larger the mirror, the greater the space will appear. We are creating the illusion of space, so scale is king in small or tight spaces despite the “rule of thirds” decorating guidelines. Consider using standalone mirrors with small frames.
Be Strategic…
Stay focused on the goal of enhancing challenged areas. Don’t go overboard on the number of large mirrors used in your home. We are not charging admission to a fun house - we are thoughtfully placing a few large mirrors to create an inviting area.
Reflection…
Experiment with the positioning and angles of the mirror. Evaluate the reflection to determine if you are correctly emphasizing space and and avoid the negative impact of clutter from crowded shelves and cabinetry.
Common Placements…
Entry/Foyer; Opposite or Adjacent to Large Windows; Dining Room; Bathroom Backsplashes; Soaring Ceilings; Take it Outside-small sitting areas and greenery; Behind Light Sources
